But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
-- Gen. 2:17 (KJV)
The only tree that mankind was forbidden to eat from in the Garden of Eden was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Look at what this tree was named, "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil."
What is the knowledge of good and evil? The knowledge of good and evil is morality. The problem with operating in morality is that it will kill you. If you choose to walk in morality, then you will always change the boundaries of your morals in order to remain comfortable. Morality is situational ethics. Knowing right from wrong is completely different from doing the right thing instead of the wrong thing.
Morality is totally subjective based upon the person. For example, one person can rationalize that conserving energy is the right thing the do, while someone else can justify that conserving energy is something that does not need to be done.
Morality is the downfall of mankind because morality is a step below truth because truth is objective. A simple analogy that shows truth is an easy math equation: 2 + 2 = 4. Two plus two is always four. That's the truth. However, morality can deceive a person into thinking that those two numbers equal five by making up something to justify their own faulty reasoning. Stay out of morality because it always leads to immorality.
Numerical Analysis: The numerical pattern for this verse is 2,8,1,7. (2) To be delivered, stay out of morality. (8) To have a new beginning in God, do not partake in morality. (1) Follow God so that you will live. (7) Choose to be perfected by God so that you will live.
